Disconnect iPod classic from computer
Be extremely careful while disconnecting your iPod classic from your computer.
Do not disconnect or detach if you see
- any synchronization message in iTunes, or
- the "Connected" or "Synchronizing" messages on your iPod classic screen.
To disconnect or detach your classic from the computer, you have to eject it first.
- In iTunes, click the Eject button next to your iPod classic icon in the Source List.
"Ejecting" and "OK to disconnect" message appear on the iPod classic screen in succession.
Let the progress bar move to the other end. The iPod classic main menu appears.
Also notice that, the iPod classic icon disappears from iTunes Source List area.
- Disconnect the USB 2.0 cable from the computer's USB 2.0 port.
- Now, hold the other end of the USB 2.0 cable and detach it from the iPod's Dock Connector port.
