Autofill And Flash Fill


The Auto-fill feature in Excel 2013 lets you fill up cells with repetitive numbers or sets of similar entities.
Such as Months of the year or Days of the week.
For example, type Jan in a cell.
To fill up the cells below with the remaining months of the year,
Hold down on the small square handle on the bottom right of the cell and drag down.
This fill the rest of the cells with the short forms of the months of the year.
If you want the long form, type in January,
Hold down the square handle and drag down.
Step 1. Excel is now smart enough to fill the remaining cells with the long form of the months of the year.
The same principle applies to days of the week.
Step 2. Type Sun in a cell and drag the square handle downwards. If you want the long form,
Step 3. Type Sunday in the first cell, and drag down on the square handle.
What if we wanted to auto-fill the years?
Step 4. Type in 2011, for example.
Hold down on the square handle and drag downwards.
This time the auto-fill feature does not seem to work.
But wait. Note the small option box that appears to the right.
Step 5. Click on the option box.
.In the menu that appears,
Step 6. Click and choose "Fill Series". This fills the cells with the following years.
In excel 2013, numeric values are treated slightly differently.
If you want to fill a range of cells with a series of numbers,
Fill in the first number, drag down on the square handle.
Step 7. Click the option box.
Choose fill series.
There is one more way to achieve this.
In the first cell, type in 1. In the second cell type 2.
Now select both the cells. First select the top cell, ...
