START MENU AN INTRODUCTION


The Windows 7 start menu is in many ways similar to the earlier versions of Windows such as XP and Windows 95 and in many ways it is a big move away from earlier versions as well.The old start button has been replaced by a rounded Windows button call the Start Orb.There is no start word written on it by default.But if we hover over the symbol, a small tool tip pops up showing the word Start.1. Click on the orb.The start menu pops up.It is divided into two halves.On the left hand side is the Favorites List, or the Most Used Programs list. These are also referred to as the MRU buttons or the buttons for the Most Recently Used applications. We shall use these terms interchangebly, but mostly use the term MRU.On the right side of the start menu as before is a list of commonly accessed shell folders and other system locations and tasks such as:DocumentsPicturesMusicGamesRecent ItemsComputerNetworkControl panelDevices and printerDefault programsHelp and supportShut downMy Computer has been replaced by a single word Computer.In the earlier versions, such as Windows XP, Internet Explorer would be pinned on to the top of the list on the left hand side.Now in windows 7 it is no longer so.
